My thoughts on social media in 2019

The dawn of social media has brought about a huge change in our lives. In some ways, it’s been incredible, allowing us to connect with other people wherever they are in the world and giving us all access to information and inspiration at the touch of a button. In other ways… well, it means that we have to be mindful. For me, social media has been overwhelmingly positive. It allows me to speak directly to my brides to be and has been an invaluable tool for my business. I love my conversations with my clients which continue long after their wedding day and I’d be so sad if all of a sudden I was unable to do that.
On the flip side, does it hurt me when someone leaves a negative comment? Yes, of course it does. Because I care. I care about my business, my team and my brides. We put so much love into creating the dresses of women’s dreams so it does sting a bit.
BUT! It’s important to brush that off and move on because no matter what you do or how incredible your designs are, you simply can’t please everyone. And that’s ok. It would be a very boring world if we all liked the same things and I always try to remember what I tell my brides when they come to see me in the boutique: be the best version of yourself.
I really wanted to bring some of that positivity to the wedding party and I’m excited to now be on the cusp of launching the SISTER collection. I won’t lie, launching a completely new venture is scary. Halfpenny London has grown organically over the past fourteen years and I’ve watched it blossom with awe and wonder. Despite the expansion, the team is still small so for me now to branch out into the world of bridesmaids is terrifying and exciting in equal measure!!
Sister is all about inclusivity and positive vibes so it’s got me thinking… maybe we all need to do our bit to make the world a nicer place, online and in real life. I’m all for “feel the fear and do it anyway” but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all felt free to express ourselves? Everyone can when they set foot in my boutique, and it’s my quiet, yet determined mission to extend that love to my social accounts too and make everyone feel welcome.
To those who’ve been with me since the beginning – you know who you are! – or those who’ve joined me along the way, thank you! If you’ve only just discovered Halfpenny London, welcome! I can’t wait to connect with you, my wonderful Sisters.
Love,
Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
