Gorgeous Amy | A real Halfpenny London bride
Our beautiful bride Amy married her lovely hubby in May this year in a very modern wedding in a historic venue! Amy had a challenge to find a dress to suit a ceremony in an 11th Century Norman Keep, followed by a reception in a Georgian House and then a marquee for the party. She came to us looking for a dress to suit all settings as her wedding day went through the ages!
“[Before visiting Halfpenny London, my experience of dress shopping was] draining (physically, psychologically, emotionally…)! People don’t tell you that dress shopping isn’t all it’s cracked up to be if you’re not completely happy with the way you look, and not really that into traditional wedding dresses. I was about to settle for another dress, when I came across Halfpenny and thought I’d give one more dress shop a go.
I arrived and was optimistic at the sight of a whole rail full of the kind of minimalist dresses I like. It was also a relief to be greeted by a no-fuss, down to earth sales assistant who could probably tell I had wedding (dress) fatigue. I did the usual explanation/warning/’things to note’ about myself from the next down, as they went through the rail picking out dresses I could see I liked, and others I wouldn’t have picked myself. They told me not to panic about my timeline (I was cutting it a bit fine), which put me in a better frame of mind from the word go as it was a relief not to be subject to the usual scaremongering.
I came out in the Cheryl dress first, and I felt what I think I should have felt all along – comfortable and that it was completely me (and that it looked as good from the front as it did the back!) To be sure, I tried on the rest and was surprised that those I wouldn’t have picked also looked better than any other dress I’d tried on to date. I think you have to find your dress shop, and Halfpenny was definitely for me. It took me up to my Halfpenny appointment to realise that what I was looking for was a dress that wasn’t traditional, but was classic and timeless – and that was classic and timeless, but also modern. It felt good, both in terms of how I looked, but also the material on my skin and how it moved – I knew I’d be able to dance which was a big priority! It was completely me, which is what people keep saying to me to this day, and it suited the day and venues perfectly.”
Amy finished off her look and added some drama with one of our soft tulle veils. She kept her flowers muted in tone and let those epic venues speak for themselves!
Huge congratulations to this gorgeous couple! I’m so happy Amy found her dream wedding dress with us. I LOVE MY JOB!
