Gorgeous Emma | A Halfpenny london bride
I’m so pleased to share this wonderful wedding with you today! Beautiful bride Emma Spedding married Ernest Amoako in September this year in an elegant, classic celebration with their nearest and dearest. We loved working with Emma to find the dress of her dreams!
“As a fashion editor the theme naturally started with the outfits!” Emma said. “The dress and cape I went for has a timeless and elegant feel, and so all of the rest of the wedding decisions really sparked from there and it set the scene! I decided to keep everything quite simple, classic and elegant, with whites and sage greens. The night before the wedding we had a really colourful family dinner to celebrate Ernest’s Ghanaian heritage - with orange flowers and guests wearing printed wax cloth fabrics and a really vibrant tablescape- so it was really fun to have two very different styles for the dinners.”
Emma enjoyed trying on a mix of different wedding dresses, including some more non-traditional choices, and her strong sense of style and knowledge of fashion informed the process.
“What I loved about my first Halfpenny fitting was how we had a thorough chat about my style and what I was after, and the stylist really picked up on my language and immediately sensed the options that would be right for me to try. I went to my first fitting by myself, and I loved the experience of talking one on one about my personal style, what I thought I might be after and also have fun trying on lots of different things. I think you are really sold a story that you will try on one dress and instantly know it is ‘the one’ - but I found it was actually a slower process of trying different things on and slowly tweaking the design so I knew it was the right choice.
Before I tried anything on I was always sure I didn’t want a veil, and loved the idea of a cape. I tried the Ash dress and Manet cape a few times to be certain it was right (I’m very indecisive), playing with the proportion and styling of the cape and whether we’d add any extra embellishment, such as tulle flowers. But I loved the simplicity and elegance of the flowing tulle and how the layers created drama. The dress had a fuller skirt and was more traditional than I thought I might go for initially, but it was so comfortable and really flattered the proportions of my body. I felt so at ease and relaxed in the dress and cape, which ultimately made my decision.”
During our fitting Emma had mentioned that she loved how Grace Kelly in Catch a Thief had sheer tulle over her collar bones and shoulders, so the Manet cape was the perfect choice! We added an extra layer of tulle to make for a more dramatic train and I adore Emma’s final look.
“A big part of the decision was also how beautiful the whole process is at Halfpenny. I knew I could really trust Kate and the Halfpenny team to fit this dress to absolute perfection and make me look and feel my absolute best. Working in the fashion industry in London, I also loved how the dress was made right in the heart of the city and I had my fittings with the designer who I had met through my work - it just felt very special!”
Myself and the team loved working with Emma and we’re so happy to see her joy in these beautiful images. Wishing her and Ernest all the love in the world and here’s to endless years of happiness together.
Love,
Kate & the Halfpennys xxx
