Hula | From Sketch to Ceremony
There are so many wonderful moments when designing a new collection. That initial spark of inspiration followed by the rush of creativity, then watching the garment take shape before my eyes.
But it doesn’t stop there.
There are many more moments, including the look on a bride’s face when she tries it on and knows this is her perfect wedding dress. This really is the most wonderful job in the world!
When designing the Courage collection, my team and I explored every curiosity. Fabrics and textiles are a constant source of inspiration and I’ve always loved how a process of manipulation can really change a fabric. Take the beautiful silk of the Hula dress for example, and how it remains liquid-soft and drapey even with the strict pleats. That juxtaposition of structure and softness is so compelling to me and I adore the angelic, wing-like sleeves we created. A dramatic low back and a magnificent, full godet flowing into a beautiful train were the finishing touches for this gown.
