Stunning Claire | A Halfpenny London Bride
Beautiful bride Claire Luxton (now Luxton-Harris) and her new husband Scott celebrated their love this August. The couple knew exactly how they pictured their day and, being an artist, Claire was in an excellent position to realise their vision.
“We always wanted our wedding to be intimate, botanical and cinematic; inspired by our joint love of history and nature and my fine art practice,” Claire said.
When it came to finding a dress, Claire had high expectations. Luckily, my wonderful boutique in Bloomsbury is full of options to please her artistic eye.
“I found shopping for a wedding dress such a personal journey. Halfpenny was the second ever shop I went to as a bride, and it was my first day of trying wedding dress on. Prior to this day I had spent months of online research and pinning looking for my dream dress. I’m such a perfectionist and after all my research I new the energy and aesthetic I wanted my dress to have, but doubted that I would be able to find it. For me, I wanted my dress to embody my own personal style, our ‘Contemporary Tudor’ wedding theme, and to feel exceptional, but also still feel like me. I wanted buying a dress to feel special and personal, but sadly the dresses I had tried on up until Halfpenny had just not connected with me in a personal or elevated way.
I knew I was in trouble (the best kind) from the moment I saw the puff sleeves hanging on the rail like every period drama I had ever seen growing up. My mum and Maid of Honour both instantly said ‘this is where you will find it’. I still didn’t believe that I would as it was only my second ever store and no-one finds a dress that quickly right? But I guess when you know you just know.
As an artist, what I loved so much was the craftsmanship, attention to detail and the fact that I (with Halfpenny stylist Niamh and fitter Summer’s help) could effectively design my own wedding outfit by using a unique combination of separates; skirt, corset and sleeves. In the end I had The Ruffle Rose Skirt, with Mars Sleeves and a bespoke corset which was a twist on the Camden! I have seen all the stereotypical bride films and tv shows and really didn’t expect to be emotional or gushy over my wedding dress. But when we found the prefect combination I was so giddy with excitement that I just knew I had found the dream dress.”
I adore the freedom separates gives me and my brides so I’m thrilled that Claire saw the incredible possibilities to style them as she pleased. She looked incredible and I’m thrilled she found the perfect wedding outfit at Halfpenny London.
Flowers feature heavily in Claire’s art so it’s no surprise they played a big part in her wedding aesthetic and she searched for the perfect accessories to complete her look.
“My amazing florist Louise Roots was able to bring together my vision of a moody wild sea of Romantic Antike garden roses, pretty Orlaya, scented Sweet peas, Chocolate Cosmos, Rubus, Blackberries, Astrantia, soft Ammi, Summery Cosmos, Dahlia, Larkspur and large scented Princess Aiko garden roses. Finished with trails of scented Jasmine. I also knew for my hair accessory I wanted a twist on the Tudor French Hood instead of a tiara, so I found this amazing gold, embellished headband by Jennifer Behr and then a stunning art piece bag that tied everything together by Mae Cassidy.”
Congratulations to Claire and Scott! Thank you so much to this wonderful couple for allowing us to share their big day and we wish you every happiness in your new adventures together.
Love,
