Beautiful bride Rachel married her new husband Ganesh in a colourful countryside wedding last August. It was important to the couple to emulate how vibrant and joyous India is and they perfectly blended British and Indian culture throughout the celebration. Choosing an artist based in India to design their stationary, the colours used then became the inspiration for many other parts of the wedding, from the flowers to the plates, glassware, and food.
“I had really never given much thought to what I wanted to wear if I ever got married,” Rachel said. “After Ganesh and I got engaged, there was a bit of a ‘oh god, now I have to do this’ moment. I went to a few places to try on dresses and get a sense of what I liked, but being 5ft I found it really hard to visualise or enjoy any of the more traditional shapes – they just swamped me and I found the experience very impersonal with a lot of pressure.”
With the help of our stylist Megan, Rachel created her dream bridal look with the Rihanna skirt, Oliver corset and Issa shrug.
“I live not far from Halfpenny and first noticed the shop while walking my dog and had been looking at the windows for inspiration for a while! I loved everything about my visit to Halfpenny, it was intimate and luxurious. Megan really listened to what I wanted from my style and worked to incorporate it within my budget. I was very much on a mission but my mum definitely had a few tears. The follow up appointments with Summer for fittings were also so fun and helpful.
I always loved the idea of separates so I could keep wearing my look long after my wedding day instead of sitting in the attic forever. The Oliver corset and Issa shrug have already been on a few nights out with me! I was obsessed with Rihanna from the second I saw the piece in the window and I just knew it was what I would end up wearing. The look was elements of traditional with a modern and unique twist that is just a little bit over the top – somehow it was just so me. Even though I was wearing samples I felt so great about my body. The final pieces are the most flattering thing I have ever worn, even months later I am still so thrilled with it.”
When it came to accessorising her bridal look, Rachel knew exactly what was missing…
“My most important accessory was our dog, Rothko who was with me for all my walks past Halfpenny and was my therapist to the more chaotic moments of wedding planning. He joined us for photos and immediately wanted to settle down on my skirt.”
Other than lovely Rothko, Rachel chose a beautiful mix of Indian jewellery which was gifted from from Ganesh’s family, and wore her bee necklace from Alex Munroe.
She looked sensational and I’m thrilled we were able to play a part in her special day. Huge congratulations to the happy couple!
